thank you for the encouragement.
this picture is just a test fit before i start rivetting. but it feels good to see parts come off the shelf.
and i ordered another left side panel today.

Looking good, keep at it, some people are naturals at sheet metal, I am not one of them...

i renewed my membership a couple of weeks ago and realized i've been working on this for well over a year and have not been winning. the left side panel ended up with a wrinkle at the upper rear corner. i tried shimming and considered some other ideas. finally i decided the only thing worse than ruining a 500 dollar piece of metal is not admitting it.
so i moved on to the right side. i put a lot more effort into making the panel lay against the frame before drilling any holes and figured out where i went wrong on the left.
the new panel is formed to have a compound curve. the curve in the panel is constant but the shape of the airframe is not. frame "b" curve straightens out toward the bottom. there is no way to avoid having a wrinkle in the panel. so i've forced the wrinkle to the lower rear part of the panel. i hope the wing root fillet can absorb the wrinkle.
