I've done that too in my Alon, but I do find the airspeed to be slightly reduced.

I fly my M10 (an Alon with a Mooney tail) with the canopy closed but not latched. The canopy deforms enough to allow vent air to enter and it stays reasonably cool, even in Florida in the summer.

My Alon climbs at 300-400 FPM with the canopy open, but about twice that with it closed. The Alon is very clean closed but very dirty open. I don't remember that kind of loss with my Ercoupes.

I have one of those. It's called "Fly with the canopy open."

I don't know of a kit, but I saw a really cool idea somewhere - take a large fan (8-12 inches) that can be run with airflow either way and mount it on the panel leading to the empennage. Recently, my empennage cover screws came loose and I was getting HUGE amounts of cool air dumped on my back, neck, and shoulders.

Does a cockpit cooling kit exist?
