Or, as was pointed out, have a look at the data plate on the engine. On every Continental I've ever seen they're on the top of the case about halfway from front to back on the case. On my C-90, it's on the passenger side. On my 182's O-520, it's on the pilot side.

You are correct, sir! I forgot about that, since most of the C75s I've seen had 73 inch props. So the prop diameter, unfortunately, doesn't tell this person anything. Log books are a must!

A 71-50 per the Type Certificate is fine for a C-75.
2. Propeller - fixed pitch metal, McCauley 1A90CF or 1B90CM 26 lb. (-32)
(a) With Continental C-75 series engines only
Static r.p.m. at maximum permissible throttle setting:
not over 2100, not under 1950. No additional tolerance permitted.
Diameter: not over 73 in., not under 71 in.

With Ercoupe, you can't assume anything. If it has been upgraded to a C85 there should be an extra data plate on the engine stating such. Logbooks are important and should contain an entry. If it's still a 75, that prop is illegal.

I am looking at an Ercoupe to purchase. It has a 71-50 McCauley prop on it so can I assume that it has been up rated to a C85? It seems like all the data suggests that the C75 had the 73 inch prop.
