if it looks like this then it is the bellcrank for the hand parking brake

Don't know for sure but it sounds like a bellcrank for a panel mounted brake handle.

If you have a pull starter knob, my best guess is, it probably is the starter bellcrank. You pull the knob and the bellcrank pushes the rod/ bendix gear to engage engine and pull a little more it pushes an old fashion start button, Right off 1930's farm tractors and early combines. Always make sure the knob returns to position or the gear will still be engaged.

Hard to say. Only bellcrank there would normally be hand brake. Can you upload a picture?

In getting some really gucky reside from the back side of the firewall, I ran across a bellcrank that I cannot explain. It's about 4" on the long arm and 2" on the short one. It's mounted parallel to the firewall. It has a foot long threaded rod attached to the short arm. Travel is about two inches. Can anyone tell me what this is? What it operates?
