I think I need a new comm radio

I have two working Narco radios (and racks) I removed to install a new Garmin Radio with flip/flop.  I'll let you have one or both of them for "not fancy" price.

Looking for help, my comm radio appears to work early into the flight and then fall off after a number of minutes or an hour.  I am pretty sure the current radio is 30 years old.  Picture below.  I need a radio I can depend on, nothing fancy, but one that will do the job.  Nothing Fancy is a code word for cheap...    
So if you have a suggestion I would surely appreciate it.    
I called NORCAL today for flight following and they heard good on the flight out but the return flight (same route) they could NOT copy.
