Look at the Aug 2019 coupe Capers, there is a very good story on Stromberg carbs.

Try these guys to help you identify your carburetor. These guys offer a carb ID service if you read down the page for $20 .
www.thecarburetorshop.com/Carburetor_ID.htm
Once you are there look at the listing of updraft carbs, used on many types of machines industrial, marine, Model T, and on and one.
Also look at the listing of under "TRACTOR CARBS", dozens and dozens of tractors listed.

I’m assuming it’s a Stromberg carb. If it’s legal for your airplane, it should be able to lean it. Many are wired full rich with no control. You con install a mixture control. If your carb is off a tractor, it’s not legal, but I don’t think very many tractors have updraft carbs...

Can't identify carburetor. Can't be leaned. was created by Larry McCartin
The carb on my 1946 415C cannot be leaned. I move from Tucson to Grants, New Mexico at 6400 MSL. So the engine (85 hp) is running way to rich and can't handle the air density even when the temp is 50 degrees F.. I bought the engine and carb from a fellow who had a fire that destroyed the plane in his hanger, but the brand new C85 was in perfect condition with only 98 hours on it. Only later did I learn it had this type of carb. Went to a Coupe get together at Lake Havasu a few years ago and asked some of the guys to look at it. One of them told me it was a carb used on farm tractors from the 1940's and he thought is was an option from the factory (?) He said he had seen one in the past on a Coup also. Well, it is rather dangerous trying to fly since I moved here. I'm a retired school teacher and there is no way I can afford a new carb. Any ideas about changing the mixture for a much higher altitude would be appreciated. Regards, Larry Mccaartin Grants New Mexico (520) 444-4390
