Good point. On a low wing, the site point is the more like the trailing edge of the aileron for me to correct for my low skills.

Are you using a wide enough radius for that circle? If the circle is too small, it will be a pretty steep turn. Larger, it is a lesser bank - so I just enlarge the radius. Also good on turns across a road. Never had that much trouble keeping it on - having that barn on the wingtip or just ahead of it worked fine. Good practice for dealing with crosswind, too, as on a larger radius, one is dealing with it longer. Steve

If you are trying it to the left, try it to the right. You need to be at 30 degree bank if I recall correctly. I only fly low wing and do them all the time to allow my pass to shoot photos. Pick a large object like a barn and do it both directions. Pull a slight amount of up elevator at the beginning to hold altitude.
You can do it!

Interesting question. Until I bought an Ercoupe
all my time was in Cessnas. Turns around a point
as a student in a 150 were a snap. In the Ercoupe
I fly a racetrack pattern. Fine, but inconvenient, for
checking out landmarks esp with a passenger but
not suitable for training. I assume Piper pilots have
the same problem and wonder how they cope.
Thanks for making me think again -Bruce.

Hi All,
Does anyone have a good suggestion for turns around a point ground maneuvers? Given the low wing and dihedral, I find it extremely difficult. With the degree of bank needed to see the target, you have to be so close that it becomes a steep turn maneuver. If you go out far enough to use a normal turn, the bank angle to see the target is too steep and I spiral closer in. Prior to this, I've only done them in high wing planes.
Thanks
